Inspiration: How does one define inspiration? One dictionary definition is: Stimulation of the mind or emotions to a high level of feeling or activity.
Inspiration comes in all forms as the definition states. Something so simple as a photograph, a piece of poetry, a cloud formation or rainbow or a child's laughter. Inspiration is brought on by the senses of the beholder.
I ask the question again but this time, where do we find inspiration / who inspires us / what inspires us? Each is relevant.
My children inspire me, and have always done so. From babies to young children, their anticipation when stumbling upon something new inspired me to nurture that anticipation. I watched at their excitement as we searched the rockpools on holiday for crabs and seaweed. My inspiration was then to photograph said find or write about it in a journal. From that photograph my children were inspired to start a photo album to display their finds. So inspiration was born by me and passed on to my children.
Many things quietly inspire me. Bravery of our soldiers in all the armed forces, unity of troubled states and countries, community coming together in a crisis, flood and earthquake victims against adversity, brushing themselves down and starting over. The fact that I decide not to do anything with this quiet inspiration does not mean that it has not touched me deeply. Such inspiration gives me clarity of mind, hope for the future, respect for those who have chosen to come together and love for mankind.
There are moments in my life where I felt immensely inspired by life ~ past, present and future. One such moment was on vacation to the Grand Canyon (pictured above). Inspired by the sheer enormity of the Canyon, the colours, the birds, animals, flora and history of this wonder. What of its timeline, past, present and future? Many came away from the Grand Canyon, after saying silent prayers, giving thanks for life and just praising the heavens for such a wonderous place. Did they leave inspired. Again, I ask you to define Inspiration?
I am not a deeply religious person, but believe that we are all here for a purpose. If we believe that purpose is to simply exist, then so be it. If we believe that every day is a gift and should not be eclipsed by petty differences, untruths and negative feelings, then we will be inspired by everything and everyone around us.
Believe in yourself and your life and you'll find inspiration at every turn.
